How to actually achieve your goals

We all have dreams. When the New Year rolls in, we feel that familiar spark — the motivation to turn the page and start fresh.
We write down our goals with confidence: financial goals, health goals, beauty goals. Full of hope, we fill the first pages of our journals, believing this will be our year.

But as time goes on, life gets busy. Our focus shifts.
Those goals? They often stay just that: words on paper.

So how do we move beyond writing and start building goals that actually stick?
How do we set intentions we’ll truly follow through with — and create change that lasts?

Let’s talk about how to set realistic goals, and more importantly: how to achieve them.

A realistic goal is one you can truly achieve. But don’t get me wrong - this isn’t about dreaming smaller. I want you to dream big. I want you to hold on to those bold, beautiful visions, even if they feel far away right now. Because the size of your dreams isn’t the problem - it’s how clearly you define the path to them.

The secret to achieving your goals lies in how specific and structured they are.

When you set goals, start with the bigger picture. Set your general goals. Think about what you want your life to look like a year from now. What are you working toward? Maybe it’s earning a degree, saving a certain amount of money, landing your dream job, or simply becoming the most confident version of yourself. These are your long-term goals and in this part of the process, you’re allowed to dream freely. Don’t hold back. Define the vision clearly and write it down.

After you’ve put your vision into words, it’s okay if it still feels out of reach. That’s completely normal. You’re not expected to have it all figured out right away. What matters is what comes next — breaking that big dream down into actionable steps.

This is the moment where you start asking yourself: what do I actually need to do to get there? What habits do I need to build? What lifestyle choices do I need to make? Whether it’s planning a monthly budget, adapting to healthier routines, or studying for important exams — writing down the specific steps you’ll take makes everything feel less overwhelming. It brings clarity. And with clarity comes power.

Picture your dream as a cloud floating high in the sky. You’re standing on the ground, looking up at it. The only way you’ll ever reach it is by building your staircase — one step at a time.

Once you know the direction, it helps to zoom in and create monthly goals. These monthly intentions are focused, manageable steps that keep you moving forward. You might decide to apply to jobs, complete a workout plan, or save a fixed amount of money. The point isn’t to be perfect — it’s to stay consistent. Ideally, you revisit and set these goals at the beginning of each month. That way, your energy stays aligned with the bigger picture.

Still, life will happen. You’ll get off track sometimes and that’s okay. What matters is that you come back to your goals. That you keep showing up for yourself.

This is where weekly goals come in. On Sundays, or whenever works best for you, take a moment to breathe, reflect, and realign. Set small, easily achievable goals for the coming week. Goals that connect back to your monthly focus. These can be simple, like going for a walk after dinner, prepping healthy meals, or setting aside a little extra money.

Every small goal you achieve is a step forward. One step closer to the life you imagined. One step in the staircase to your future.

Remember this: focus on the step infront of you, not the whole staircase.

Success begins with a clear vision, and the courage to follow it with confidence, grace, and purpose.
